Cult War: Five Killed In University of Agriculture, Makurdi (Photos)
No fewer than seven persons, including six students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and a security man attached to a private students’ hostel in the school community have been killed in a cult related clash.

Nigeria Schools Blog gathered that the university became a field of death after gunmen, suspected to belong to a cult group, apparently on a reprisal to avenge the killing of one of their members on Monday, stormed the private hostel, called Shammah Hostel, on Tuesday night and shot sporadically, killing no fewer than six persons.

Although at the time of filing this report, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu said five persons were killed in the Tuesday night attack, sources from the area said six persons were killed even as another corpse was found locked up in a room with many injured students after the police came to evacuate five dead bodies.

The Tuesday attack may not be unconnected with the killing of a student and injuring of another by a rival cult group within the school’s community on Monday.

Confirming the report, Head of Information and Public Relations Unit of the institution, Mrs. Rosemary Waku, said five corpses belonging to students and a security man attached to the private hostel, who were killed in the attack, had been evacuated by the police and taken to the morgue at Mandona Hospital, Wurukum, Makurdi.Five Killed In University of Agriculture, Makurdi 1

She added that one more corpse was later discovered by some injured students after their attackers had dealt with them and locked them up in a room.

Waku explained further that the number of deaths could not yet be ascertained as the school’s authority and the police were still going round to check if there were other dead bodies in the area.

She disclosed that the university authority was holding marathon meetings, trying to take some decisions on getting across to the parents of the victims. She said the names, levels of studies and their departments would need to be known to the parents and the public.

According to her, the police have been drafted to the campus to further provide additional security coverage for the school.
