The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has been awarded the Organisational Leadership Award for Excellence in Open Education.
The award, presented at the Open Education Global Conference in Krakow, Poland, was received on behalf of the institution by the Head, National Open University of Nigeria’s Open Educational Resource (NOUN-OER), Dr. Jane-Frances Agbu.In a statement by NOUN’s Director, Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Sheme, the executive director, Open Education Consortium, Mary Lou Forward, said the Open Education Organisational Leadership Award is presented to an organisation that has shown exceptional leadership and/or ground-breaking activities in the field of open education
She added that the award is not presented annually, rather it is awarded by the consortium’s board of directors by special commendation to recognise truly exceptional work.
Meanwhile, the Open Education Consortium (OEC) has applauded NOUN’s dedication to openness, access, high quality and innovation.
The consortium said NOUN has shown by its work in Open Educational Resources (OER) and its vision to make it a feature of its educational approach, as well as to share experiences and best practices with others in the region and in the world.
