Unilorin Expelled 108 fresh students - VC reveals reason

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof.
AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has explained that 108 students
who recently matriculated in the University were expelled
from the University because they were discovered to have
obtained admission into the institution through dubious

exchanging views with the Kwara State Commissioner of
Police, Mr. Sam Okaula, who visited him in his office.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that because of the stable
academic calendar and culture of excellence in the
University, the pressure to secure admission into the
institution is high, resulting in some candidates seeking
illegal and unauthorized ways to gain admission into the
Prof. Ambali assured the Police Commissioner of the
University's continuous cooperation, promising that the
University would be ready to offer the Police any
information they might require in the course of their work,
saying, “We will volunteer any information you need to
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University's stance on
zero tolerance for cultism and indecent dressing, stressing
that it has helped to maintain sanity among the students.
Prof. Ambali informed the Commissioner of Police that
members of the force that might be interested in further
education could take advantage of the opportunity provided
by the University of Ilorin Centre for Peace and Strategic
Studies (CPSS).
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner of Police said he
has great respect for the University of Ilorin, which,
according to him, is one of the best universities in Africa
because of its stable academic calendar.
Mr. Okaula said that security is a collective responsibility of
every member of a community, praising the University for
not having a single student among the 118 students that
were recently arrested for cult-related activities.
He commended the Security Unit of the University of Ilorin
for its focus, discipline, and professionalism, assuring the
Vice-chancellor of the continuous support of the Police.
The Commissioner of Police disclosed that the Police Force
has adopted scientific investigation method, noting that
some of the officers in the Force would require more
education as he pleaded with the Vice-Chancellor to assist
them in securing admission to improve their capacity to be
able to better deal with crimes in the country.
The CP was accompanied by ACP Akeem Yusuf, ACP
Abubakar A. Yahaya, ACP Polycarp S. Kpai, CSP Nzota Chidi
and SP Salihu T. Mynmrioles. Also on the entourage were
DSP Fabode Moses, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, ASP Eludire O.
Clement, ASP Afolabi Olaibi, SP Onysabo Oshoka and ASP
Ikoyi Isaiah.
The Vice-Chancellor was joined to welcome the visitors by
the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji; the
Registrar, Mr. E. D. Obafemi; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. O.
Ogunbiyi; the Chief Security Officer, Mr. T. Tijani; the
Principal Assistant Registrars in the Vice-Chancellor's Office,
Mr. A. Sayuti; Mr. K. K. Babamale; Miss Funke Hudson; and
the Protocol Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. S. O.
