On Thursday, June 2, the Federal Government announced that the examinations usually organised by universities in Nigeria for admission seekers after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations should be scrapped.

The Nigerian Universities Commission has said that despite the scrapping of the Post-UTME test, varsities are still allowed to screen prospective students sent to them for admission by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, if they choose to.

This was made known by the Public Relations officer of the NUC, Ibrahim Yakasai.

On Thursday, June 2, the Federal Government announced that the examinations usually organised by universities in Nigeria for admission seekers after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations should be scrapped.

According to its thinking, the FG is of the belief that if there was absolute confidence in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, there should be no need for Universities to conduct internal examinations to determine the fate of candidates seeking admissions.

Yakasai, who spoke on NTA, said the government’s directive does not restrict any university from screening students sent to them by the exams board.
